Even in this present modern day of ours, we Filipinos still believe in superstitions that has a creepy supernatural causes. Most of us probably heard it from our Inangs or Amangs and it is passed through generations. They say there’s no harm in believing and following these superstitions. It’s Holy Week, and this is the season when superstitions are rife.
Here are some of the superstitions during the Holy Week:
1. Wounds acquired from Holy Week takes longer time to heal
This is by far the most famous superstition during the Holy Week. But please, even if you are very curious about it do not try to scrape yourself. Be careful, y’all.
2. Attaching Palaspas on the front door
It is believed that when you hang the Palaspas that was blessed during the Palm Sunday, it can ward of those evil spirits.
3. Taking a bath after 3pm on Good Friday is forbidden
What if you smell like a mandirigma already? Would you still follow this?
4. Evil Spirits are stronger
People believe that evil spirits are stronger during the Holy Week because Jesus is dead. No, there is no stronger than one’s faith! *winks*
5. Wear anting-antings
Since it is believed that evil spirits are stronger, it is advised to wear those creepy-looking anting-anting that was derived from Mt. Kungsaanman
6. It is prohibited to look at the mirror
Evil Spirits are said to be wild after 3pm on Good Friday ‘til Easter Sunday, so girl, you cannot pull off that winged eyeliner because you are forbidden to look into a mirror or even your phone’s from camera. *yieks*
7. Do not move into a new house
It is believed that since Jesus hasn’t resurrected yet, you could bring bad spirits to your home.
